We already see it in athletic wear, with both genders wearing body conscious wear. Not since the medieval time have men run around in hose/running jeggings, all-be-it without the codpiece!
#GENDER NEUTRAL lifestyle fashion has been a long time in coming. Not until the 1940's did it become acceptable for women to wear pants. Yves Saint Lauren created a stir when he introduced Le Smoking suit for ladies back in the 1970's. Mark almonds and Duran Duran, men using eye liner was so outrageous at the time. The legendary androgynous looks, of the late, hat wearing David Bowie.
In designing the callanan #gender neutral collection, I tried to think outside the box to design hats that would complement not 1 or 2 but ALL genders. My gender neutral friends love the idea, but strangely some of my #GENDER SPECIFIC colleagues found the description "offensive" and insist on calling the collection the "boy friend hat".
Just because a hat is shown on a man dose not exclude a woman from wearing it, without the prefixing it with the word "boyfriend". To me, this suggests that the hat was designed for men in mind. I wonder if men will buy "the girlfriend hat". I really wish we could keep boy/girl descriptive tags out of fashion when possible.
Fashion, by its very nature, has to be future thinking and not regressive, inclusive not exclusive.
