HATS OFF TO FALL 2019

Finally its time to grow up and put your big boy pants on. At least that is what the menswear designer fall 2019 shows told us to do. In these uncertain economical and political times, it might be better to present a more professional demeanor by wearing a suit and tie and of course a hat!
After many seasons of "tacky trackies" it was refreshing to see a shift from street wear to tailoring.
From Celine to Prada, power dressing was Cock Of The Walk.

There was a definite 1970/1990 vibe with pants from flares to turn-ups, belted leather jackets and duster coats. I liked Silmane's description of the look, "PERVERSE POSHNESS" which translates to "wanting to look posh but also not really caring".

So lets talk about the hats. Although the hats that were used at the shows where......how should I say this.......Simply Weird; I do believe that the tailored trend will indeed be good for hats. Designer shows are merchandised to be attention grabbers, borderline controversial. A finely made wool felt hat might not get attention but cut a few holes in it and now we're talking.

RAF SIMONS HELMET HATS

Raf Simons helmet hats look like a helmet I recently saw at the British museum. It originally had cheek pieces and long leather chin-straps. There is so little originality in fashion, no matter how hard we try.

JIL SANDER BUCKETS HAT

Jil Sander went for very deep bucket hats. This is a cool look until you bump into a lamppost or walk in front of a speeding car.

Off the runway, it looks like men are reclaiming the BERET. Classic black or grey military style berets with a leather jacket and turtleneck. N.B. berets are not designed to keep your ears warm during the current polar vortex.

LIVING CORAL 2019 COLOR OF THE YEAR

Drum roll, light the lights, curtain up and the PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR 2019 is LIVING COLOR 16-1546.

Thank the fashion gods that PANTONE picked a pretty color for next year. The 2018 color of the year, purple, was a downer. I still have purple hats in stock that did not, sell if anyone wants to buy them.

I always love working with coral color. Its looks great on all skin tones. Here's a beauty tip, when you are feeling tired or overworked, don a coral colored hat or scarf and watch your skin come back to life. Here's another secret, it looks amazing on social media pics!
The 2019 coral shade is way better then the last time around circa 1980, when it was more a lipstick shade worn by frilly bridesmaids.
Living coral color has already made it onto the red carpets. From Vanessa Paradis wearing a coral chiffon Chanel gown at the Cesar awards, Taylor Hill wearing a coral gown to the Vanity Fair Oscar party to Heidi Klum wearing a beaded coral gown to the Emmy's, which earned her 10,000 likes on IG.

Yves Saint Laurent, YSL, ops I am showing my age. Saint Laurent, I do miss Yves, one of the best designers ever, trotted out a very sellable F18 collection, if you are under the age of 32. Anthony Vaccarello's customer has ,oh so long legs. The gurls are skinny, even the bois are shinny.

It's hard to classify DENIM as a trend. For most of us, it is a wardrobe staple, and it is without doubt a classic "AMERICA STYLE".

PURPLE REIGNS FOR 2018

Here's a reminder that Pantone's color of the year 2018 is PURPLE in all its shades of glory.
 Especially ultra VIOLET.

The dearly departed songster known as Prince would have had you "laughing in purple rain, bathing in  purple rain" but I think a little shot of purple goes a long way.

 So what is the difference between the color purple and Violet? Violet appears in the visible light spectrum (rainbow) ,whereas purple is a mix of red and blue. Whilst violet is not as intense as purple, generally speaking the names are interchangeable and the meaning of the color is similar.

Purple/Violet is a secret mystical color worn by catholic priests during exorcism and while hearing confession during Advent. It is believed to have a calming effect with healing powers.

From a color psychology point of view, purple/violet promote harmony, mental balance, psychic abilities and spiritual enlightenment.

The color purple is specifically associated with royalty and nobility, creating an impression of luxury, wealth and extravagance.
