PINGYAO-MUSEUMS

Pingyao has always been a rich city which is why it is protected behind sturdy battlements. In the mid 1800s, Chinas first draft banks opened here. Many of these old bank mansions are now museums open to the public. As well as the banks there are escort (bank valuable needed to be heavily escorted agains thieves), martial arts and scribers mansions as well as city god temples.

If you are a bad person this is the punishment which awaits you in the next world!!

Let me see, was this little boy good or bad?

 The sign say "no photograph"

Chinese believed in reincarnation. They believed that the grandmother of the universe would send her helpers out with reincarnated babies to whom ever needed them. You could not be reincarnated as a woman so everyone came back as a man.

Many courtyard entrances have lovely brickwork.

Many are working courtyards. It's interesting to peep in as you walk by.

Wall of the 9 dragons.

And around the corner from the Confucius museum and little run down catholic church.
